Over the coming days, we will have the opportunity to admire the craftsmanship of outstanding violin makers during the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition – the oldest and one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world.
Out of 85 submitted instruments, as many as 76 have arrived in Poznań. Soon, they will be available to view in a virtual gallery on the Competition’s website, and after the event concludes – at an exhibition in the Museum of Musical Instruments. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness violin making at the highest global level!
An international jury composed of five world-class violin makers (Frank Ravatin – Chairman, Krzysztof Krupa, Antoine Nedelec, Ji Hwan Park, Noémie Viaud) and two outstanding violinists (Agata Szymczewska and Soyoung Yoon) will evaluate the instruments based on their tonal qualities and craftsmanship. To ensure the highest standards of integrity and impartiality, all instruments remain anonymous until the results are announced.
The winner of the Competition will receive €18,000, with second and third prizes of €6,000 and €4,000 respectively (gross amounts). In addition to the main prizes, special awards will also be granted.
The instrument that receives the highest jury score will become part of the Violin Making Instruments Collection of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
