The Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Making Competition seeks to recognize instruments that demonstrate exceptional acoustic performance and outstanding violin-making craftsmanship. Stage 2 of the competition, unlike the public-facing Stage 3, is held behind closed doors at the Museum of Musical Instruments and involves a meticulous assessment of both sound quality and craftsmanship. To ensure impartiality, the instruments remain anonymous until the competition concludes. The jury — composed of expert luthiers and professional violinists — evaluates each entry in detail. The photographs offer a rare glimpse into this confidential and highly specialized process.
