A total of 85 instruments, crafted by luthiers from 18 countries, have been submitted to the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition.

Violins from four corners of the world – Europe, North America, East Asia, and the Middle East – will be delivered anonymously to the capital of Greater Poland. The largest representation is from luthiers from Poland, China, and South Korea. For the first time in the history of the Competition, violins from Estonia and Iran will be featured.

The jury will evaluate instruments built by luthiers representing countries such as Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China (including Hong Kong), the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Iran, Japan, Canada, South Korea, North Macedonia, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and Italy.

The names of the luthiers and the markings of the instruments (referred to as codenames) will be revealed only after the results are announced.

The best luthiers will receive financial prizes: the winner will receive 18,000 €, the second-place winner will receive 6,000 €, and the third-place winner will receive 4,000 € (gross). In addition to the official prizes, special awards will also be granted.

The instrument that receives the highest rating from the Jury will be added to the Luthier Instrument Collection of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

In addition to the official prizes, institutions and private individuals may also submit additional financial and non-financial prizes by May 9.

The competition, which has been held every five years in Poznań since 1957, is the oldest and one of the most prestigious events in the world of violin making.
